Today I started laying down some foundational type colors to kind map out where's what. Then a certain someone decided to do some micromanaging. Don't let the face fool ya she is quite the critic. This certain someone is our new pet polar bear named Lula. I joke, she's only half polar bear.
After this stage I started laying down other layers of highlights and shadows not entirely clear of what I wanted. I usually paint this way when not working from a direct subject. It helps me feel out what needs to happen (shape and form-wise). As you can see it started out muddy but the beauty of acrylics is that you can come back in and work with it.
I decided I wanted a sunset-like scene, so I started to add more warm tones. Which also will be great to give some drama behind the forest scene.
So I'm pretty happy how the day finished here. As for the figure on the hillside I have something in mind but before I share it with you I wanted to do a little more digging for some inspiration.
